Italian Citizenship Application Fee Rises to €300
The administrative fee for Italian citizenship applications has been increased to €300 for all new requests.
Securing Italian citizenship now incurs a higher administrative cost, as the application fee has been officially raised. As per legislative provisions introduced by Law no. 132/2018, the fixed contribution required for all Italian citizenship applications, whether submitted through marriage, civil union, or naturalisation by residency, has been increased to €300. This marks a notable rise from previous fees. Prior to 2014, the fee was €200, which then increased to €250 before the 2018 update solidified the current €300 amount. This change became effective for all applications lodged on or after December 4, 2018. The fee is payable to the Ministry of Interior and constitutes a mandatory component of the application process. Applicants must ensure they pay the correct amount and include irrefutable proof of payment, typically a receipt from a specific bank transfer (bonifico bancario) to the Ministry's designated account, with their submission. This adjustment primarily reflects an effort by the Italian government to better cover the administrative costs associated with processing the extensive number of citizenship requests. It is important for applicants to note that this contribution is a non-refundable fee, regardless of the ultimate outcome of their application. Therefore, careful consideration and preparation of all required documents are essential before incurring this expense.
