Since January 2026, decree 2025-1345 makes a civics exam (MCQ) mandatory for all French naturalization applications. It assesses knowledge of the Republic's values, institutions, history, and symbols.
The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions. The duration is 45 minutes. A minimum of 80% correct answers is required, i.e., 32/40.
